Quest for Christ Meeting

During a recent Quest for Christ meeting the realities of Purgatory, Hell, and Heaven were represented through live and separate presentations of each state.  First the teens that belong to the high school group were brought to Purgatory, a special room that was filled with mist where they were welcomed as those who just entered purgatory.  The Church’s teachings of the final purification of the elect from their temporal punishment was discussed along with teaching on indulgences and the Communion of Saints.  Next the teens were led to Hell, a dark, hot, dirt floor basement where numerous actors suffering the torment of Hell were in the background as Satan addressed the teens with a welcome to Hell script that was based on scriptures and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  All the teens expressed that Hell was a very memorable place!

Lastly, the teens were escorted to Heaven, which took place within the Church itself where the Blessed Sacrament was respectfully exposed by Fr. Ranges.  During adoration scriptures were read from the book of Revelation describing Heaven as well as quotes from Jesus taken from the Gospel of John where Jesus proclaims he is the bread of life.

The purpose of the evening was to highlight and help the teens to better understand the feasts of All Saints and All Souls day and focus on the opportunity for reflection on these feast days rather than allowing Halloween to overshadow the richness the Church has to offer through these important fest that draw us to the Saints and call us to pray for souls in Purgatory.
